Course Overview

The Private Pilot training course is designed to provide the foundational knowledge and skills necessary for safe and competent piloting of an aircraft. This Part 61 syllabus follows FAA regulations and prepares students for the Private Pilot Certificate check ride. Training covers fundamental flight maneuvers, aeronautical knowledge, navigation, and emergency procedures.

Prerequisites:

  • Minimum 17 years of age (16 for solo flight)

  • FAA Medical Certificate (3rd Class or higher)

  • English proficiency

Course Structure

The course consists of ground training, flight training, and check ride preparation. Training will focus on safe aircraft operation, decision-making, and regulatory compliance.


Phase 1: Pre-Solo Training

Ground Training (10 hours)

  • Introduction to aerodynamics and aircraft controls

  • Federal Aviation Regulations (FARs) for private pilots

  • Airspace system, ATC communications, and airport operations

  • Basic flight planning and weather fundamentals

  • Preflight inspections and aircraft systems overview

Flight Training (15 hours)

  • Aircraft preflight procedures and checklists

  • Taxiing, takeoff, and landing fundamentals

  • Straight-and-level flight, climbs, descents, and turns

  • Slow flight, stalls, and basic emergency procedures

  • Traffic pattern operations and radio communications

  • First solo flight (upon instructor endorsement)


Phase 2: Cross-Country and Night Operations

Ground Training (10 hours)

  • Advanced weather theory and flight planning

  • Navigation techniques (pilotage, dead reckoning, GPS)

  • Weight & balance, aircraft performance calculations

  • Night flying procedures and illusions

  • Emergency procedures and lost communications

Flight Training (15 hours)

  • Cross-country flight training (minimum 50 NM leg)

  • Night flying (minimum 3 hours)

  • Controlled and uncontrolled airport operations

  • Diversions, lost procedures, and simulated emergencies

  • Short-field and soft-field takeoff/landing techniques


Phase 3: Check Ride Preparation

Ground Training (10 hours)

  • Private Pilot knowledge test preparation

  • Review of regulations, airspace, and flight planning

  • Scenario-based decision-making and risk management

  • Mock oral exam and check ride briefing

Flight Training (10 hours)

  • Solo cross-country (150 NM minimum, three landings)

  • Performance maneuvers (steep turns, stalls, emergency descents)

  • Traffic pattern work and precision landings

  • Full check ride scenario practice

  • Stage check and mock check ride


Final Stage: FAA Check Ride

  • Ground Review (5 hours) – Oral exam preparation

  • Flight Review (5 hours) – Proficiency check and final maneuvers

  • FAA Check Ride with DPE

Total Minimum Hours:

  • Ground Instruction: 35 hours

  • Flight Training: 40 hours (minimum per Part 61; additional training as needed)

Completion Standards:

  • Meet ACS standards for private pilot proficiency

  • Pass the FAA knowledge exam

  • Successfully complete the FAA check ride

Additional Notes:

  • Training will be conducted in a single-engine aircraft

  • Students must maintain an accurate logbook and training records

  • Additional hours may be required based on individual progress
